Police arrest 28-year-old suspected snatch thief

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for snatch theft committed in the vicinity of North Bridge Road.
On May 18, 2013, at about 3.20am, a 35-year-old victim lodged a police report informing that the suspect, a casual acquaintance whom he met at Selegie Road, had snatched his handbag and fled as both were walking along North Bridge Road.
Officer from Central Police Division subsequently arrested the 28-year-old suspect in the vicinity of Jurong Port Road on May 21.
The suspect will be charged in Court on May 23, 2013 for an offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum of 7 years’ imprisonment and shall be liable for caning. A remand will be sought to conduct further investigation.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan commended his officers for their good investigative work and excellent teamwork which led to the arrest of the suspect. He advised victims to alert the police at the earliest opportunity so that apprehension of suspects and recovery of properties can be expedited.
