Police arrest 12 in raid on illegal gambling den

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested 12 men between the ages of 38 and 61, for operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den disguised as an association.
The raid on the den located at Geylang Road lasted 5-hours and began at 2pm on June 24.
Investigations revealed that a 53-year-old man is believed to be involved in assisting to manage the illegal gambling den, while the rest of the suspects were patrons of the gambling den.
Three mahjong tables and three sets of mahjong tiles were seized as case exhibits.
If found guilty of assisting to manage the gambling den, the 53-year-old can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, and can also be jailed up 3 years.
If found guilty of gambling in an illegal gambling den, the other 11 men can be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed up to 6 months.
