PM Lee is facing a Pandora box of sorts – on the one hand, he is urging Singaporeans to express themselves and to participate and take initiative in shaping Singapore into what they want it to be. And indeed, more and more Singaporeans are doing so. But this did not mean that these Singaporeans were necessarily appreciative of his government. Theirs is a more vocal and demanding voice. Also, at his back is also the political opposition which has gained substantial grounds the last few years.

On the other hand, PM Lee faces a slew of serious issues which do not have simple answers. Also, he may not have the capable men and women within the ranks of his party who he can call on to deal with these.
