Tan federation endorses Tony Tan

THE 10,000-strong Federation of Tan Clan Associations has thrown its weight behind former deputy prime minister Dr Tony Tan in his bid for the presidency.
Speaking at a meeting on Sunday afternoon in the Lam Soon clan building on Upper Paya Lebar Road, Tan federation secretary-general Tan Lian Ker said Dr Tan's professional assistance and contributions as honorary adviser to the Tan federation since 2006 have enhanced the image of the federation and its members.
He listed Dr Tan's past appointments as Minister of Education, Finance, Trade and Industry, Defence and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as the former executive director and vice-chairman of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation and former chairman of Singapore Press Holdings.
He is the 'most qualified' for the post among the six presidential hopefuls, he said, as he urged the 13 Tan clans under the federation to support and vote for Dr Tan.
Dr Tan, who was present, said he is proud to be a Tan and is very appreciative of the federation's endorsement and strong support.
He added that clans play an important role in Singapore by bonding Singaporeans together in good times and bad.[/TD]
