Gorkovskaya power plant is called Nizhegorodskaya today. The settlement of the workers turned into the whole city in the Trans-Volga region. Nizhegorodskaya power plant is rather impressive. No wonder after seeing the Nizhegorodskaya plant you want to see the Krasnoyarskaya one that is 12 times more powerful than the first one.
No construction could exist without him!
It seems the builders could literally win the laws of nature – to block one of the biggest rivers in the severely cold winter. Along all the 126 m perimeter necessary temperature of the air is maintained.
Mass of the dam reaches 15 million tons which is comparable with the mass of 45 “Empire State Buildings”.
In 1972 when the plant was put into service the world had not more than 10 of similar objects. The station provides 50% of all electricity in the region. In the scale of all Russia its share is 2,3%.
Snow of the Sayan Mountains also contributes to 334 km Krasnoyarsk reservoir.
The whole city of powermen, Divnogorsk, rose around the station.
When the station started working they began to produce ferrous and nonferrous metals, chemical and woodworking industries began to develop in the region.
The engine room is the heart of the power plant.
Electronics helping to control the monster
Part of the equipment doesn’t let radio waves in, so the mobile connection here is bad.
It looks so shiny and new – more Western than Soviet.
Mechanical energy of the water is transferred to hydrotreaters where it transforms into the electric one.
Through the transformers it is distributed between the 220 and 500 kV blocks.
Then it goes to consumers through power lines.
The station was being reconstructed in 2000-2013. 9 out of 12 hydrotreaters have already been repaired. After the modernization the station will be able to serve for 20 years more.
Water near the station is always cold, even in hot summer. It is never warmer than 13C. The river never freezes 200 km around the plant.
The plant can be seen on the 10 rubles’ bank note dated 1997. It attracted more tourists to the place.
