Dear Gilbert,
F”T”s - I put the “T” in inverted commas as most of the foreigners are
displacing us in jobs which do not require specialized talent and many
Singaporeans could easily qualify but they were not given the opportunities due
to various reasons.
For the “minimum pay” on their Employment Passes, I am sure many of our
fellow Singaporeans would be willing to work for. I have Singaporean friends
working for the same scope in different companies drawing a much lesser pay then
them. As much as nearly 50% less!
It all started when a FT new manager asked to employ an ex-colleague of his
which is also an F”T”.
The next job opening we had after that, was responded by more than a hundred
applicants with Singaporeans included.
Still, they employed another F”T” of the same nationality.
When a 3rd vacancy was opened, a Singaporean fresh poly graduate was
employed… the thing is, this guy selected is not the best of the
applicants.
I suspect he is also suffering from some kind of mental stress.
This gave them reasons to berate the quality of the Singapore candidates and
openly criticise, belittling and mocking Singaporea standard of education and
boast about their own national’s education standards.
That Singaporean poly grad was told to go and…. as you guessed it, another
friend of the F”T” was recommended for the job.
There is also this FT who comes late to work everyday, and have customers
complaining up to 5-time reminders of unanswered emails and still gets
promoted.
Why?
Because no. 1 – Quick to distract eyes from own flaws by magnifying the
weakness of others. No. 2. The immediate superior covers for her and paint a
rosy picture to the higher management. I know that one of the F”T”s pass renewal
was rejected at one time, however, our company put up a good appeal to retain
this F”T”.
They somewhat succeed to make their job seem indispensible. We Singaporeans
are subjected to mockery and loud complains about all Singaporean.
I left my job when I was sabotaged even though my innocence was proved I told
the Vice President that I would not risk myself to another sabotage.
And another of your guess would be right… more F”T”s are employed in this
department now after I left. The Singaporeans employed, would be reporting to
the promoted F”T”.
And it’s not the end… more of our Singaporeans are being displaced as I am
typing.
The root of the problem, is not the F”T”. They are just human who look for
greener pastures like us. I a still good friends with most of them.
My daughter asked me a question about the housing with real fear… I am
struggling and can’t afford a house for my children, yet you see these Filipinos
given “housing allowance” which could easily help us with our monthly mortgage
instalments.
In schools, they are allowed to drop mother-tongue and thus give them more
edge by focusing on the rest of the subjects and to overtake our students in
education.
Some start their education at a year or 2 older than our students giving them
the maturity advantage too.
I cry… I cry… I cry… for our fellow Singaporeans and my next generation.
Thanks for listening, Gilbert.
Best regards,
Eliyah
