SINGAPORE: There are many programmes which single-member constituencies (SMCs) can collaborate with neighbouring group representation constituencies (GRCs), said Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong.
Mr Gan, who is the MP of Chua Chu Kang SMC, said that his division has already organised several activities with Hong Kah GRC.
Giving his comments on the recent announcement by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong that the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee had been convened, Mr Gan urged his opponents who are planning to take on the Chua Chu Kang division to come with programmes and a vision.
Last Saturday, Mr Lee revealed that he had instructed that the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee start work and it would be headed by the Secretary to the Cabinet.
"I would be prepared to debate with them what kind of programmes are better and who would be able to serve the residents better. And for the opposition to take control and engage us...they have to offer an alternative agenda for the nation, what kind of policies they want to put in place for Manpower, Education, Health. What are the alternatives they are offering and benefits they are going to bring to residents and voters," said Mr Gan.
