"However and whatever the Tans' explanations, it doesn't explain how & why Mindef allowed him to disrupt for non-medical degree. Only medical/dentistry degrees are allowed disruption before completion of NS. All other degrees, you must complete your 2 or 2.5 yr NS before you do your Uni studies.

In my NS batch, I had a PSC scholar who was going to study law. He had to complete his 2.5 yrs NS as infantry platoon leader before he went to Uni for his law degree. Btw, for his reservist now, this guy is given honorary Major rank to serve as judge in Court Martials. I hear is common SAF practice for senior lawyers who are active NSmen.

If the Tans' and some of you say that this is US-style where medical education consist of Bachelors + MD, then why Mindef issue 2 separate disruptions to the son? Why not a single disruption since US-style medical course is like that?? It looks more like he got 3 preferential treatments:-
1. Preferential disruption for non-medical studies.
2. Preferential 2nd disruption immediately after using up the 1st disruption.
3. Preferential treatment in having a non-uniformed civilian job in civilian company with civilian regulations as NS, that is geared towards his career progression; even though he is combat fit."
