Picking right leaders the key to success

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->

MR DAVID Tan ('Good government must allow political vibrancy'; Feb 18) asserted that differences - in terms of opposition and competition - should be sought 'not for a government to make the right decision, but to allow it to make a decision that is right'.
This assertion misses the truth.
To safeguard the welfare of the people, making the right decision combined with wisdom is the most important endeavour as it provides an assurance of a better outcome than making a poor decision that is right even though we enjoy the right to oppose, compete and engage actively.
By wisdom, I mean knowledge plus experience and critical thinking.
In many consensus-building processes, the lowest common denominator often prevails.
And in any system, choosing the right leaders suited for the mission at hand remains the key to success.
