Peeping Tom beaten after being caught red-handed
GEORGE TOWN: A Peeping Tom was beaten up after he was caught filming a female tourist taking a shower at a shared toilet of a budget hotel in Chulia Street here.
A photograph of the suspect with his face covered in blood has since gone viral on social media websites after the 12.10am incident yesterday.
The suspect, a receptionist at the hotel, had peered over the toilet wall and filmed the woman with his mobile phone camera.
The woman, who is from Kelantan, screamed when she looked up and saw a hand holding a mobile phone above the partition.
Her screams alerted her boyfriend who rushed in and nabbed the suspect.
It is believed that the receptionist, in his 30s, was beaten up before he was handed over to the police.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police, who had classified the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty, would refer the investigation to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
In an unrelated development, a voluntary patrol unity team caught a man red-handed as he was trying to steal a brassiere at an apartment block on Friday.
The team then went to his apartment unit where they found a large assortment of panties and bras.
