Passport faults: Half fixed by ICA already

ABOUT half of the Singapore passports likely to have been affected by a printing error have been fixed.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) contacted nearly all of the 1,280 Singaporeans with the faulty biometric passports, issued between May 23 and June 3 this year, after it discovered a technical glitch.

It said a technical fault in a laser-engraving machine caused a printing alignment error, which could lead to problems when travelling overseas. But the ICA is not aware of any cases of Singaporeans encountering delays due to this error.

An ICA statement on Friday night urged the remaining affected passport holders to go to the ICA Building to get their passports fixed 'as soon as possible'.

'The ICA has contacted almost all the affected passport holders, and has sent letters to those who cannot be reached by phone,' the statement said. Dedicated counters at Level 3 of the ICA Building will help those with the affected passports.

These counters, open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and from 8am to 3pm on Saturdays, will remain open until all affected passports are rectified
