18 seats and 1/5th of all parliament seats to be given away. Why?

Is it because everytime he goes overseas, he looks silly answering why the monopoly in parliament. Is it because old man's grandsons studying in Brown, MIT etc are made fun of by classmates. Is the PM's wife unable to handle the cynicism of trying to substantiate something that is not tenable to the man on the street or makes for common sense. Has the overtures to Asia society and other surpra-national bodies to seek positions of importance knocked back because Singapore is not considered a democracy. Are these cosmetic to hide wards that the PAP are shamed off.

As long as the Government uses taxpayer funds for its own party grassroots activities via a statutory body called People Association. As long as opposition elected MPs can't take charge of taxpayer funds for ward activities whcih PAP gives power to its own defeated PAP candidates, there will be no democracy, no semblance of democracy.

All opposition parties should make it clear that such positions are accepted under protest. No in principal acceptance must be given. Opposition must state that they have been denied a fair election and thus feel their presence in parliament is done under protest and not that these measures have merit.

They must also make it clear that GRC is not acceptable even if its 2 man constituency.

In the meantime, could someone raise the issue of whether rent is being paid by the SM for using the Istana as his home for close to 50 years. No issues when he was PM, but as an SM.

i reckoned that at no instance should the oppositions precipitate into a stew of Ratatouille, but allowing them the chance to graduate into a nice Boeuf Bourguignon :D:D:D

And how about stopping the obnoxious practice of keeping cushy highly paid and "iorn-rice bowl" jobs at GLCs such as Keppel Corp, SPH, NOL, NTUC etc for Cabinet Ministers, MOS, and even MPs when they are laid to pastoral care on stepping down?

If these bloodsuckers were worth the millions we had to pay them under protest, then why can't they get a bloody decent job like everybody else after being retired/retrenched in the real job market??

Who should be retrenched/retired? MM, SM, 1 DPM, 2 Ministers in PMO for astart.

the Istana is wasting precious space like the KTM complex, it should be relocated to Kranji.

Singapore will stagnate and stop progressing if the media is not free to open up issues for discussion without fear or favour.

No worthwhile democracy can operate in absence of informed media.

All other measures (to prop the fake parliament) are patently useless when the media does not disseminate information which the electorate uses to pick its representative.

So get one thing right first, that is the media openness, and everything else will fall in place.

Because they are the precious elite?

More like the Old Fart is embarassed that his Parleement is 2/3 empty during each session as his running dogs are too busy "making a living" outside!

Because of the internet

Because the whole world can now read what cannot be censored

He thinks more opposition seats = more valves to release public pressure...

This is a real Parliament. It look like the British MPs are ready to fight any moment.

The odd thing about this dictatorship is that it is relatively sound economically. Every other things smacks of abuse, nepotism, state sanctioned corruption etc. Because of the 1st part, people find it diffuclt to act. Old man knows one thing very well - a hungry man is an angry man. As long as he ensure that NTUC does not run out of rice, there will be no rebellion, revolution or significant dissent.

I am disappointed that the Opposition seem to accept GRC and lukewarm to the other changes. It looks to me that MPs pay packet is attractive enough for a compromise.
