it's really sad to see a former SAF scholar and Brigadier General be deployed as a clown to make children laugh

Singapore's favourite returning officer is back in action -- and this time, he's doing the Bhangra.

People's Association chief executive director Yam Ah Mee took part in a short skit-cum-musical segment at the preview of 12 new Circle Line Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations on Sunday, where he danced on a stage platform at Caldecott station together with a small troupe specialising in the South Asian folk dance.

In the video uploaded on YouTube on Sunday by the ElectricNewPaper, Yam is greeted by an enthusiastic Irene Ang, in the persona of an older lady who tries to get him to record a personalised ringtone for her. He misinterprets her request and rattles off his famous announcement line, “Pursuant to Section 49, Sub-section 17, paragraph 8…” to cheers and applause from the audience.

He then explains that he is there in support of members of a bhangra dance interest group performing for the occasion. The video then fades to a 30-second sequence where Yam joins the bhangra dancers in their performance.

Come 8 October, the 12 remaining stations on the Circle Line of the MRT network will be opened officially.
