To be honest, I would have no idea either. How do you maintain prosperity in a country full of Southern Chinese peasant stock?

A long time ago in Delphi, I suggested becoming like Monaco, add F1, Casinos etc. Someone from the establishment actually read that post and implemented the ideas. However, I did mention that this would require reducing the population but that was already occurring with natural attrition.

However, they also tried to keep manufacturing, trade, finance etc and this required the importation of large numbers to keep things humming.

Singapore needs to decide what it wants to be and put 100% effort into the chosen path instead of trying to hedge bets being jack of all trades. I still believe the Monaco model is the best. The Lees can convert to being a Royal family so we can remove the sham elections which are nothing more than a distraction.

Kick out all the foreigners.. build more casinos and bring in more world class events WRC, MotoGP, etc

It wasn't easy. It required an economy that was driven by foreign MNCs looking for cheap labor. This model cannot last forever. Even China will become too expensive as time goes by.

None of us might know the right answer but the approach taken by the PAP will not help find the right answer while keeping the core values and the Singapore identity intact.

Instead of picking up few key strands to work on, they decided that they will let in sheer numbers raise consumption level and create demand - a false and shaky growing economy. You need to add more each year just to keep the same rate of growth. It's breaking at the seams.

Look at the property market - who do you think are the main beneficiaries from this outcome. We have foreigners taking over HDB and Condo while Singaporean elite a making a fortune from landed property that are leased to rich foreigners that cannot buy landed property.

I am with you on this. Do at least one thing well. Monaco protects its citizens well. So do the middle eastern countries. FTs are exactly that - FTs. We pay them but they don't decide what we do. And respect has been earned.

However, the rich need to be entertained and their playground must be exciting and this is where the gambling and the glamor events come in.
