- Typical characteristics
Upper class (1%)
- Top-level executives, high-rung politicians and civil servants, and heirs. Oxbridge or Ivy league education common
The Rich (4%)
- Households with net worth of $1 million or more; largely in the form of home equity. Generally have university degrees
Upper middle class (20%)
- Highly educated (often with graduate degrees), most commonly salaried, professionals and middle management with large work autonomy. Household monthly income typically above $8,000
Lower middle class (30%)
- Semi-professionals, technicians or craftmen with a roughly average standard of living. Most have poly education and are white collar. Household monthly income typically from $3,500 to $8,000
Working class (20%)
- Clerical and most blue collar workers whose work is highly routinized. Standard of living varies depending on number of income earners, but is commonly just adequate. Secondary school / ITE education. Household monthly income typically from $2,000 to $3,500
