Extending the COE to use the car for longer will help compensate for the drastically reduced PARF rebate.

My take is that the majority of EVs from pre-2022 will not be sticking around when their 10-year COE is due, and it may not be because their batteries have conked out.
Rather, it is due to technological obsolescence and, potentially, a lack of support from independent workshops and spare parts suppliers.

Those who buy a new internal combustion engine (ICE) car today will probably have little doubt that it will remain serviceable after a decade of plying the Pan Island Expressway, roaming Sengkang and frequently zipping to Melaka and back.

EVs outperform ICE cars in major reliability study

EVs less likely to break down, according to Germany’s ADAC.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are proving more reliable than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, according to new data from the ADAC, Germany’s largest roadside assistance service.

Analysing 3.6 million breakdowns attended in the past year, ADAC found that EVs had significantly fewer issues per vehicle on the road.

In vehicles first registered between 2020 and 2022, EVs recorded just 4.2 breakdowns per 1000 cars, while internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles hit 10.4 per 1000.

Despite a growing share of EVs in Germany’s fleet, the number of callouts involving electric cars remained proportionally low - just 1.2% of all breakdowns, or 43,678 cases.

The finding marks the first time ADAC has felt confident enough in EV sample size and maturity to make a clear reliability comparison. The result, it says, favours electric.

12V batteries still the top culprit

While the high-voltage drivetrains of EVs often dominate headlines, it’s actually the humble 12V battery causing the most headaches. This single component was responsible for 50% of all EV breakdowns, and 45% of ICE-related callouts.

That mirrors earlier findings that many of the top causes of roadside failures - electrical systems, lighting, engine control - are less prevalent in EVs due to their simpler mechanical design. Without an engine, gearbox, or fluids to manage, there’s simply less to go wrong.

Tyres: one category where EVs lag

Tyres are the only area where electric vehicles showed a higher rate of failure. EVs logged 1.3 tyre-related callouts per 1,000 vehicles compared to 0.9 for combustion cars.

The cause may lie in the increased weight of EVs due to battery packs, combined with high instant torque potentially accelerating wear.

However, the ADAC notes that this trend is less prominent in newer EV models, possibly due to improved tyre tech and vehicle calibration.

Long-term data still developing

ADAC cautions that longitudinal data remains limited. EVs have not been around long enough in large numbers to assess performance beyond 10 years of service.

However, the current trajectory suggests a strong reliability advantage in the early to mid-life stages of ownership.

As the study continues to grow year-on-year, the emerging picture is clear: modern EVs, while not perfect, are shaping up to be among the most dependable vehicles on the road today.

Tesla Model 3 with 238,000 miles finishes 2,500-mile tour and its owner reveals what its range and battery health is like now

With every original part still intact, this plucky Tesla Model 3 with 238,000 miles arrived back from a 2,500-mile tour of the UK and went through a complete health diagnostic that would surprise the biggest EV doubter.

A large consensus of EV skeptics claims that the reason these new cars aren’t as reliable as gas vehicles is due to their shorter longevity.

Much like the batteries in your TV remote, people believe that the battery will be flat within a few years, and you’d be left out of pocket.

But this Tesla Model 3 is proving the doubters wrong, still going strong with its original kit nearly 250,000 miles later.

The ‘highest mileage’ Tesla Model 3 excels in a 2,500-mile road trip

Owned by UK content creator Richard ‘RSEV’ Symons, this is the ‘highest mileage’ Tesla Model 3 in the UK. In just under four years, it’s racked up 235,000 miles with everything but its original tyres.

Even with its extraordinary miles on the clock, the car is still proving to be incredibly efficient.

In a new trip from the bottom of the UK to the top, battling snowstorms and typically British soggy weather, this Tesla Model 3 showcased why EVs are much more reliable than you think.

Interviewed by another EV fanatic, Tesla Jigsaw, RSEV revealed that his latest test for the car was a 2,500-mile round trip where it performed almost like a brand-new EV.

He revealed that the usual patterns of driving for a few hours and topping back up to 80 percent – using fast charging at Superchargers – worked a treat, and the battery is still working at an exceptional rate.

Despite its heavy usage as a time being a taxi, the battery is still sitting pretty at a maximum capacity of 86 percent, while its brakes have only just started to show signs of around 30 percent degradation.

This EV is proving to be more reliable than gas alternatives

All in all, over its lifetime, RSEV claims that, using Superchargers alone, the total cost of running the vehicle is $33,000, which is a massive saving on the $81,000 it would have cost on fuel.

As it edges over to a quarter of a million miles in just four years, he claimed that combustion cars would have begun to crack by now, with parts like the clutches and DPFs having a limited mileage on them.

Even in the recent road trip, the Tesla Model 3 showed no signs of being weary and tired.

“That proved that even a car with this mileage in these conditions can do it fault-free the whole time,” he said.

Drawing a lot of attention for its exemplary performance, RSEV has often taken to his own channel to answer fans’ biggest questions.

Still going strong, he also claimed that the car will continue to be his daily driver and rack up more and more mileage.

Toyota hilux can last 30yrs
Can Tesla last 15years ?

COE itself is a scam. Which country can make u buy a piece of paper to own a car for 10 years? lol only Singapore

Can Tesla last 15years ?
A 30 year old Toyota Hilux will last till today. However a Hilux built today will not last another 30 years.

A 1996 Toyota Hilux was almost purely mechanical. Today the Hilux engine is a nightmare to run and service.

EVs and 'renewable energy' are pushed by the Davos anti-carbon cult. It is predicated on the narrative that carbon emissions are bad, and you must make changes to your lifestyle to 'save the planet'.

It is also reinforced by copious amounts of climate alarmism, especially of 'rising sea levels' by a certain year, we will all perish unless something is done.

The next time those WEF clowns gather for their annual group therapy, the good people should stay away and Davos should be nuked. The world will be a better place.
