Picking herring bones. I don't see anything wrong between fetch, take or pick up. Who the hell taught him that fetch is only for fetching pets? Millions fetch their wife and children every day. He must have owned and a dog and got confused with the fetch command to his dog. The tense errors for note/noted and had/has is correctly pointed out though.
