A boy in China was impaled by a steel rod on his bicycle in a freak accident last week.

Weibo reported that the boy was riding to school on Feb 21 when the bicycle seat got bent over, exposing the steel rod below when he fell.

The steel rod penetrated the boy from below when he fell, and firefighters had to cut the rest of the bicycle away before the boy could be taken to hospital via ambulance for further removal.

This probably sounds and feels worse than it actually was, as medical staff managed to extricate the steel rod from the boy's rectum and he was released without serious injuries.

However a doctor when quizzed about the removal procedure, said the accident could have killed him.
