SOME Malaysian youths have grown to hate the Government because of the Opposition's exploitation of the new media, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
He said the Opposition had fully taken advantage of new media to spread lies and half-truths.
"It is a major challenge for Barisan Nasional component parties to engage the youths who mainly derive their information from the Internet.
"MCA has been trying to turn the situation around but we started late," he said after the opening of the Umno general assembly yesterday.
Dr Chua was commenting on Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's call on the need for the party to engage youths via the new media.
On Najib's call for leaders to bow out graciously if their popularity had declined, Dr Chua said: "The biggest challenge for leaders is to know when to retire. They must realise that there is still life after politics."
He lauded Najib for urging Umno members to pledge loyalty to the party, saying that it was an appropriate step.
"If all members of component parties are loyal and vote for Barisan, we will be able to win the election," he said.
