SINGAPORE — Lawyer and opposition party leader Lim Tean will be charged in court on Thursday (May 12) with criminal breach of trust and unlawful stalking, the police said in a press release on Tuesday.
Mr Lim, the founder of opposition political party Peoples Voice, may face imprisonment for life, or imprisonment of up to 20 years, and a fine for allegedly misappropriating S$30,000 that was entrusted to him.
The sum had been awarded to his former client as settlement in respect of a motor injury civil suit.
Mr Lim will also be charged for unlawful stalking, related to the alleged harassment of a former employee in 2020 while she was working at his law firm. For this, he may face imprisonment of up to 12 months, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.
Mr Lim may also face a prison term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$25,000, or both, for allegedly acting as an advocate or solicitor without a valid practising certificate on 66 separate occasions between April 1, 2021 and June 9, 2021.
The police said that investigations against Mr Lim for other matters are ongoing.
