But men tend to have a strange effect on the female nerves, and it isn't always relaxing. Some men are just best admired from a distance.
When contemplating the possibility of starting something with a guy who has caught your fancy, this delectable dish of e-fu noodles, which symbolises both luck and longevity, might just do the trick.
And add a dash of good fortune to your love life.
BRAISED E-FU NOODLES WITH MUSHROOM MEDLEY
INGREDIENTS
300g e-fu noodles
6 dried shitake mushrooms
200g enoki mushrooms, slice about 2.5cm from root end and discard this portion
100g dried cloud ear mushrooms
100g button mushrooms, sliced
200g straw mushrooms, halved
3 Chinese cabbage leaves, sliced thinly
2 cloves garlic, chopped
10g ginger, julienned
700ml chicken stock
4 tbsp oil
SEASONING
4-5 tbsp oyster sauce
3 tbsp light soy sauce
4 tbsp Chinese rice wine
3 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp black vinegar
Dash of white pepper
Pinch of salt
METHOD
Soak the dried shitake mushrooms and cloud ear mushrooms in hot water until soft. Slice thinly.
Fill enough water in wok to cover noodles. Heat and once boiling, put noodles in for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Dry wok. Heat up the oil.
Add the ginger and shitake and cloud ear mushrooms. Fry for 1 minute.
Add the garlic, button and straw mushrooms and Chinese cabbage. Fry for another minute before adding in the noodles.
Add the chicken stock and seasoning. Braise until the liquid has almost dried up. Toss in the enoki mushrooms and stir into noodles.
Serve immediately.
