SINGAPORE - An ex-SingTel engineer admitted in court today that he had caused more than $185,000 damage by cutting fibre optic cables affecting housing estates islandwide.
Terence Tan Khoon Shan, 34, struck at housing estates like Ang Mo Kio, Clementi, Bishan, Serangoon, Toa Payoh, Yishun, Sembawang and Sengkang. He damaged the cables in March and April, causing widespread inconvenience to residents.
According to a national broadcaster, thousands of households in Singapore were unable to connect to the Internet, receive television broadcasts and make telephone calls earlier this year because of Tan's actions.
Tan first joined SingTel as an engineering officer in August 2009 where he worked in the "Fibre to the Home" project. The project is an initiative aimed at providing ultra-high speed Internet connections to end users.
But he was terminated last September. In court, Tan told District Judge Lee Poh Choo he was angry with his supervisors and had sabotaged them by cutting the cables which were in "Fibre Splicing Boxes."
Deputy Public Prosecutor Sanjiv Vaswani told the court earlier today that the boxes are located at HDB blocks and are secured with a locking mechanism.
The keys to them are usually left on top of the boxes for contractors.
The court heard that Tan had reportedly found a set of such keys sometime early this year at a Clementi block of flats and took it.
He discovered that the keys could operate the locking mechanism of similar boxes. He then committed the mischief and was arrested after an investigation was launched.
Earlier today, he pleaded guilty to 60 of 617 charges of committing mischief. If found guilty, Tan will face up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to three years per charge.
The case is adjourned to Aug 23 for sentencing.

The previous time was MBS casino where engineer planted a software sabotage to trip the power just after official openings.

:D

Now Web!

What is next in SG?

:rolleyes::*::eek:

Water supply? MRT? Food? Medicine?

I had always suspected sabotage at AMK Bus interchange where 6 SBS double deck buses were burned away.

Case still unsolved.

Last night I think I also saw Loan Sharks sabotage mata's crime warning sign:

SINGAPORE - In what is believed to be the first such case here, a disgruntled former SingTel associate engineer has pleaded guilty to mischief for cutting its fibre optic cables after his employment was terminated.

Terrance Tan Khoon Shan's actions resulted in thousands of households being unable to connect to the Internet, receive television broadcasts and make telephone calls.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty yesterday to 60 charges of mischief which caused more than $S185,000 worth of damage. The district court heard that Tan joined SingTel in August 2009 to work in the "Fibre to the Home" project, an initiative aimed at providing ultra-high speed Internet connections to end users. His employment was, however, terminated last September.

Tan then plotted to sabotage his supervisors by damaging equipment known as "Fibre Splicing Boxes".

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sanjiv Vaswani said the boxes are located at HDB blocks and the cables are found in them. The boxes are secured with a locking mechanism and the keys are usually left on top of the boxes for contractors.

Tan found a set of keys in Clementi and discovered that the keys could operate the locking mechanism of similar boxes.

The DPP pressed for a "substantial custodial sentence" of three years. In mitigation, Tan, who was unrepresented, told the court that he had "succumbed to emotions" after he left SingTel. He added he "has nothing against SingTel".

Tan will be back in court on Aug 23. Shaffiq Alkhatib

No details on whether he is local or cow.

If he is local and lost his job to an Indian FT or Pinoy with fake qualifications, understandably he will be enraged.
However by committing a criminal act, he worsen his situation further.

The correct thing to do is to find a job first, and channel his energies to work for the opposition against the pappy's ridiculous FT's policies.
He can also on his own avoid all Indian FT's and Pinoys -including anything associated with them.
Nowadays I will not buy any brand from India ,Philippines or China. There are alternatives from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Taiwan ect2.
If I see a shop staffed with Pinoys or PRC's only, I will walk away.
I will also not go near an Indian FT' (usually wearing long sleeves and carrying a haversack) anywhere.
The pappy's FT policy is increasingly destroying our social fabric and cohesion amd LKY will bring that to his grave soon-the person who destroy what a generation builds.
