AN elderly passenger has died after going into cardiac arrest on a Jetstar flight from Singapore to Adelaide.

A Northern Territory police spokeswoman said the 86-year-old man, travelling on Jetstar flight JQ62, suffered fainting episodes at 4.45am CST today before going into cardiac arrest.

She said two nurses on the flight were unable to resuscitate the man, and he was later pronounced dead upon the aircraft's arrival in Darwin.

"It looks like the man has died of old age," she said.

The spokeswoman said the man was from Yarram, Victoria, and his family had been notified.
