Half a body found in Bedok Reservoir

THE POLICE found half a highly decomposed partial body floating in Bedok Reservoir on Monday morning.

They received a call for assistance at 10.30am.

Apparently, only half of the body was discovered.

The gender and identity of the body have yet to be determined.

The police, the Special Operations Unit and naval diving unit are still searching for the missing upper half of the body.

Investigations continue. More details will be given at a later stage.

Half of the body probably got devoured by Tomans (Giant snakeheads) or Aligator Gars. These beasts are common in our reservoirs. Those fools canoeing or enjoying water sports in Bedok reservoirs, don't ever fall into the water. If canivorous fish do not get you, freshwater sting rays will surely tag you.

SINGAPORE - The PUB officers who were at the Bedok Reservoir yesterday morning made a grisly find: The lower half of a highly decomposed body floating in the water.

At press time, the upper half of the body - the gender of which could not be determined by the police yesterday - was still missing.

The police had called off the search as night fell. The results of an autopsy could be made known today, according to the police.

In a press statement, the PUB said that a police investigation is in progress.

The PUB added: "Water in all our reservoirs is treated to World Health Organization drinking water standards before it is supplied to households. The PUB has checked the water quality in Bedok Reservoir and assures members of the public that the water is safe to drink."

The partial remains of the body was discovered at about 10.30am by the PUB officers, who notified the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force immediately.

For several hours, divers from the naval diving unit searched the waters for the missing parts of the body, as visitors - including a group of polytechnic students who were kayaking - continued their activities at the reservoir.

Temasek Polytechnic (TP) student Tan Jun Wen, 17, felt the authorities "could have alerted the public not to use the reservoir until the body was found".

TP kayaking coach Grayson Ong, 45, said his charges were put off when they were told of the grisly find.

"But I told them that they could help the police find the other half of the body," he said.

It's another example of the price being paid for overcrowding this island..

Those reservors too close & accessible the heartlands are being used as dumping grounds. Probably in this case it was more convenient than a water tank
