A chunk of copper designed to create part of the Statue of Liberty's nose is headed for auction this September in New York City, local media reported on Monday.

Guernsey's auction house President Arlan Ettinger said the 2- foot-long copper chunk was one of four created as potential replacements for the tip of Lady Liberty's nose during the 1980s, New York Post reported.

One currently adorns the statue's face while the second was destroyed and the third is in possession of a private collector, Ettinger said.

The Sept. 24 auction will also include the last home run ball from the original Yankee Stadium and a photo negative of Marilyn Monroe from a nude calendar shoot.

Lady Liberty's Nose Is For Sale!

Lady Liberty is selling herself! A 2-foot chunk of her nose, one of four crafted during the 1980s restorations, is being auctioned off next month. A rep from Guernsey's Auction House told the NY Post, "It's the tip of the nose with the area around the nostrils. It doesn't sound like it would be, but it's fairly attractive looking." One of the four is owned by a private collector, while another was destroyed, and another replaced her old nose. The auction is on September 24th at the Park Avenue armory. Any bidders?

Last year we looked back at photos from when the Statue of Liberty was being assembled in 1886. Pictured is her original nose from that time, which was part of the 350 individual pieces shipped here—her nose, in total, is 4 1/2 feet.

Copper cast of Lady Liberty's nose up for auction

NEW YORK — A copper casting of the tip of the Statue of Liberty's nose is among a collection of iconic items that will be auctioned off next month in New York City.

Guernsey's auction house President Arlan Ettinger says the casting of Lady Liberty's nose is one of four that was made during a restoration effort in the 1980s. One of the four was used on the statue, one was destroyed, and another is in a private collection.

He says the piece is about 2 feet wide, consisting of the tip and the area around the nostrils. He says it's "actually quite good-looking."

The sale also includes a motorcycle from John F. Kennedy's Dallas motorcade and James Dean's sunglasses. The auction is scheduled for Sept. 24.
