SINGAPORE — A convicted murderer was executed today (April 17), close to 10 years after his crime, after several rounds of appeal were rejected.
Muhammad Kadar, 39, a Singaporean, had stabbed a 69-year-old woman to death in her flat while robbing her on May 6, 2005. She was stabbed more than 110 times. On April 7, 2009, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
In a statement released today, the police said Muhammad Kadar “had been accorded full due process under the law”.
His appeal against conviction had been dismissed by the Court of Appeal on July 5, 2011. Following his application for re-sentencing under the new death penalty regime, the Court of Appeal, after hearing further arguments, dismissed his application on Sept 29, 2014 and affirmed the sentence of death.
The police said Muhammad Kadar was represented by counsel throughout the legal process.
He was also given the opportunity to petition the President for Clemency, but that petition was turned down.
