Why prices of new HDB flats shot up so much

mR8Q0.jpg

In 1991-1995 98,994 flats were built
In 1995-2000 157,919 flats were built
In 2001-2005 55,135 flats were built
In 2006-2010 26, 319 flats were built

Is it a surprise that prices of new HDB flats shot up so much?

using singaporean babies cohort size as a guesstimation, the 70s/80s cohort is 36,000 there abouts , they marry within the same age group, and 30% remain single, (36000 x 0.7)/2, at least 12,000 should be built a year...

from 2001-2005, 55,000 flats were built, which corresponds to the 70s/80s cohort size
from 2006-2010, 26,319 flats were built, which is grossly inadequate to supply born and bred Singaporeans

HDB is under building for the years 2006-2010, for born and bred singaporeans

SINGAPORE - Immigration statistics revealed by the Government for the first time showed that, between 2007 and last year, the majority of those granted citizenship and permanent residence were not economically active - with the number of dependents outstripping working individuals.

During this period, there were 259,040 new permanent residents (PRs) and 92,310 new citizens. Working individuals accounted for 48 per cent of the new PRs and 38 per cent of the new citizens.

TODAYonline | Singapore | Many new PRs, citizens young, well-qualified

The underlying reason is that they don't understand or they have forgotten the purpose/objective of government, which is to try and make the lives of ordinary people better.

"Lives of people" will suffice, imo. Governance should not be reduced to a zero-sum game. The rich are not my enemies.

don't include "ordinary" and they will point out how well they treat their family members.

"papa is such a ...................", oh, never mind.

No way a well trained engineer like Minister Mah Bow tan can make such stupid mistake, when he knows well that Ah Lao & PM son and holy Goh were all looking at 6 million plus, the real reason must be very interesting, now that some bright sparks has pointed this out,our Cyber investigation team should be on their way by now,the real reason should be out soon, good luck,ex-Minister Mah Bow Tan.

Look at ex-Minister Mah academic records;
1960 - 1966 HSC 'A' Levels (St Joseph's Institution)
1967 - 1973 M.Eng (University of New South Wales)
You believe Minister Mah B T can make such stupid mistake?

Excellent chart. But I would like to add that PR accepted/rejected is another red herring. Net migration would be a better indicator of how strained current infrastructure and housing have become. S-pass, F-pass or whatever-pass holders also need roofs over their heads.

It is a surprise that MBT can be allow to cock up for so many years. Where was the check and balance? Its funny that he still remains a very popular figure in his constituency.
