Symptoms of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

SINGAPORE : The number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases has been hovering around warning levels in the past two months.

Five hundred and seventy-two cases were reported last week, up by 30 compared to the week before.

The Community Development, Youth and Sports Ministry is conducting spot checks on some 800 childcare centres to ensure that they have put in place measures to prevent an outbreak.

MCYS officers will check on the maintenance of good hygiene and sanitation practices at childcare centres, such as temperature records.

The ministry has stepped up checks since early March.

About 250 centres have been inspected since then.

It has also urged parents to ensure that children practise good hygiene at home.

They should also disinfect children's toys and clothes to prevent their kids from catching HFMD.
