SINGAPORE – A 23-year-old man was arrested for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons following a slashing incident involving a 68-year-old man, who later died.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they received a call for help at 5000C Marine Parade Road at about 12.45pm on Nov 13.

This is the address of Laguna Park condominium.

Police said that a 68-year-old man was found injured at the scene. He was then taken in an unconscious state to hospital, where he died.

The 23-year-old man was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, the police said, adding that two penknives were seized.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at about 1.10pm, and that it took a person to Changi General Hospital.

It is unclear how the two men are related.

The victim is believed to have lived on the 13th floor.

Speaking to The Straits Times on Nov 14, a Filipina staying in a 10th-floor unit said that she heard a female screaming at about 1pm on Nov 13.

She is visiting relatives in Singapore.

The woman, who wanted to be known only as Jill, said that the screaming got the attention of residents from 5000C and 5000D, who tried to identify the source of the screams by looking out their windows.

Ms Jill, who heard the screaming as she was about to go out, said: “I was waiting for the lift to open... Suddenly, the rescue team was rushing downstairs using the stairs. When the lift door opened on the 10th floor, I saw the uncle on a stretcher.

“He was on the stretcher gasping for breath, and he was pale.”

The 28-year-old said she did not notice any bleeding, adding that she did not know the elderly man, whom she described as a big man.

She also said that she saw five police cars at the ground-floor carpark.

According to Stomp, when its reporter arrived at the scene at around 4pm on Nov 13, the 13th floor of the building was cordoned off. A police officer was stationed on the 12th floor, and another on the 14th floor.
