It only becomes a real problem when our leaders begin to box us in. (Again, it would be overbearing to actually say that our leaders are ‘boxing’ us. I am writing in deontic modality here.) It can start with our education system, for instance, and in the way our individual performances are seen along racial lines – that Indian kids are purportedly underperforming in school; that there are more drug abuse cases among the Malay community; the Chinese are not having enough offsprings and the Malays have too many. Of course, these are simply statistics and there is always a legitimate reason to do this for we need to identify weak links in our society so that these social ills can be addressed effectively. I was also told on many occasions that it does not auger too well for any race to bring down the national average.

That is PAP’s reasoning and it must be right, for it is weighed in by the minister himself. Yet, most people disagree with the views of the establishment. In Singapore, as a rule of thumb, the combined wisdom of PAP is far superior to the collective wisdom of our society. You will need to subscribe to its dogma, even if they assert that two plus two equals five. It stands to reason that any other view or proposition or assertion would be false. Hence, TOC must be false. It must be because the State says so.

It seems that some mistakes are built to last and this would play itself up during the next General Election. It would be silly for them to continue thinking that it is the white get-up that makes them pure. The PAP needs to be authentic. As Hardy Ward once said, “Clothes and manners do not make the man; but, when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance.” This may very well be a case of bad manners that borders on racism that has tarnished their appearance.

Listen to the dumb masses?

And it looks like most people here and on the street are actually more inclined towards a verbal and/or written overdose of volitive modality without discrimination of creed and race.
