SINGAPORE: Train services on the North-South Line (NSL) and a part of the East-West Line (EWL) were disrupted on Wednesday (Jun 28) due to a signalling fault, transport operator SMRT said. It came a day after SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) warned that that there could be potential delays on both lines in the coming weeks as engineers perform "intensive performance checks" for a new signalling system beyond the June holiday period.

SMRT first reported a signalling fault on the NSL at about 5.15pm, telling commuters to expect up to 30 minutes more travelling time.

Twenty minutes later, it said all train services on the NSL were halted. "We are fixing a signalling issue on the North-South Line (NSL) and have paused NSL train services for the moment," SMRT said in a Facebook post at about 5.37pm. "We expect that this will take about 30 minutes, after which we should resume NSL train services."

At 5.44pm SMRT said train services on the NSL were being restored progressively and that commuters could take an additional 15 minutes for their journey.

However at 6.08pm, SMRT reported that the signalling issue recurred and said commuters could see an extra half hour for their commute.

Separately, services on the East-West Line between Joo Koon and Tuas Link stations were disrupted at 5.22pm due to a signalling fault and were only restored about 45 minutes later.

SMRT has explained that tests for the new signalling system must be conducted all day to "accumulate adequate testing hours" to ensure that any teething issues can be sorted out.

Was hearing that announcement on train 20 mins ago. But my short trip was not screwed up. Heng Ah!

Not free to help stranded commuters today. Bringing the family out for buffet dinner. Sinkies are on their own tonight.

Luckily the train broke down not the track

and if it happened, can we let this asshole escape?

flood is ponding
breakdown/outage is “accumulate adequate testing hours"

Khaw/Desmond should commit double suicide!!!

Are you sure? If you are a Grab or Uber driver, you will be raking in the dough right now.

Give this guy a pay increase, then maybe things will improve. :D

The service on SMRT is getting beyond a joke.
These breakdowns are now becoming common place
How can the senior management of this company justify their exorbitant salaries?
Heads need to roll (starting with Desmond Kuek).

When there is some sort of achievement, his boss in charge of coordinating transport and infrastructure will shout from the roof. When there is a problem, you won't hear a sound from that same humbug until the incident blows over.:D

They are all preparing for the "debate" on 3 Jul!

What the hell is "intensive performance checks"

What the hell is "intensive performance checks"

Stress test. Can only perform during peak hours when usage is high.

I think it has massively failed. Thales is the signal supplier ... I wonder why they choose Thales? Thales is the usual vendor for Mindef...I guess with all these paper generals in charge, they probably selected their Mindef vendor Thales ...

This bugger still got balls to collect million dollars salary and bonuses?

If his boss got balls to pay him and sinkies got no balls to vote his boss out, why shouldn't this bugger got balls to continue collecting his million dollar salary and bonuses?

if no minor issues like signaling faults i worry. it's part of wear and tear like hookers having wider vaginas after years of pubic use.

That's fine but wtf with wire tie

that's the 3rd rail like the 3rd leg of sinkie males which needs to dangle off the ground as it provides power to trains with high voltage electrical current running through it. the claw is the only clamp holding it at that section, and it is insulated from ground by the white circular contraption between post and claw. the tie wraps do nothing to insulate the jaw of claw from the 3rd rail as the middle and only fingertip of claw is already clamping on it. some moronic technician thinks plastic tie wraps will provide 6.9mm of separation between claw and 3rd rail and offer cushion to prevent claw from rubbing 3rd rail to reduce noise, dampen vibration, and increase insulation. none of the above. it's just decorative for psychological reasons for 6.9 days out of a week. :p

Like Lucien who needed another Dy AG, I think Ah Kuek needs an ex-General to assist him at SMRT.

Where's the Mr Know All KBW? He's been away from the main stage for quite awhile.
