A SOUTH Korean marine is in custody after going on a shooting rampage, killing four fellow marines and wounding another on a Yellow Sea island base near the country's tense border with North Korea.
But government officials say his motives are unclear and the shooting is being investigated.
One of the dead marines was an officer, while the others were rank-and-file marines.
