I dont read any local newspapers at all but am curious to know if the non-English ones spew the same rubbish as the English ones? I know WB and SM are both tabloids but what about the rest?

There's quite a lot of trivial Tiongland-related news on the Chinese papers. I understand if there's something serious happening in China e.g. a major earthquake, some news coverage is inevitable.

However, what you're getting now are trivial news from various provinces.

Thanks laksaboy.

I guess what I really wanted to ask is if the non-English papers are mouthpieces for the government as well. My impression of the chinese ones are no, but they dont criticise the govt either. Like you said, they only publish the non-trivial stuff.

Why would the govt allow them to post anti govt pieces on other language papers? Come on use some common sense

I'm unable to comment with any true knowledge because I'm unable to read Chinese, but my ex-school friend (he' effectively bilingual) once told me that the chinese newspapers are more descriptive and detailed in reports on rape and molest cases, he also chided me for my inability to read chinese because he had a collection of chinese pornographic literature which he claimed were more erotic than the english language Rear-Window series.

Cheers!

The English papers here are full of it. They give the least info and the most propaganda. Chinese newspapers for example always have more details on local crime. Though all are the same for govt bs

I dealt with both while in service. Ang mo papers want the facts. Chinese too. But Chinese papers will probe and request for juicy info on those arrested. Chinese reporters more resourceful.

Is it because english newspapers have to be PC aka more sensitive to certain races when they commit crimes while chinese don't need to?

Get the feeling the mono language scholars can't read chinese well enough to regulate haha

Chinese reporters more resourceful.

Yes and they are more risk-taking in their reporting, often putting up rumours or hearsay that turn out untrue.

If Singapore was a normal country, they would have received a lorry load of lawyer letters from WP, SDP, SPP, NSP combined.
