Finland’s Nokia Corp., the world’s largest mobile phone maker by volume, said it is moving its Asia-Pacific headquarters to Beijing from Singapore as part of plans to raise business efficiencies and meet savings targets.
With our greedy policies, large respected NMCs are shipping out. And of course, our compliant press does not mention a word of it.
My pity to those who Sporean who had lost jobs due to this. Of course, the beloved foreigners, can always take out their CPF, and go back to their home countries.

wonderful. i can forsee profitable business for Nokia once it moves out of sinkieland. Nokia begins its unsinkification now.

you can? i'm surprised that you can see anything beyond your nose at all.... if you have a nose that is.

Nokia is dying anyway. Product and technology still years behind other brands. Iphone is killing Nokia.

Samsung is the closest contender now. Even Sony has to stand one side.

Phew, only the toughest survive , or migrate to beijing or malaysia nearby.

The truth is Nokia is sinking as well.

Its product roadmap is unclear, it is rapidly losing market share to iPhone/Android phones. And no one really cares about the Nokia Lumia Windows phones (despite what those Microsoft astroturfer shills are claiming).

In this year or next, either Stephen Elop gets sacked, or Microsoft buys out Nokia's hardware division after Nokia's share price goes to hell.

BTW, didn't PAP/LKY boast of the capabilities of the EDB?

There was this story when a certain MNC wanted to move out of Singapore, but EDB threw money at the MNC and begged it to stay. And it stayed. Hooray, jobs were kept, well done PAP, blah...

That magic is no longer working now?

After election 2016, some PAP ministers shift out of Sinkland?

The cost in human terms of this success has been high: Singapore today is an authoritarian corporatist state that intervenes in virtually every aspect of citizen's lives. Singapore has become a nation of functionaries who serve the interests of the TNCs and the Singaporean state elite. Within such an environment there exists very little true entrepreneurship. FDI has not assisted in the development of an innovative population; rather it has assisted in the creation of a self-satisfied, arrogant society that seems content to live off its natural advantages.[23] Singapore today resembles an enormous air-conditioned shopping mall, with squeaky-clean streets and traffic so orderly as to border on the bizarre.

fuck entrepreneurship and creativity, use other people's creativity and replicate it. that is China's success model. Nokia has no more creativity as its staffed with Malaysian Eps who talk alot.

It's called Franchise Entrepreneurship a new model. Take america's success and franchise it and copy it duplicate it in hometown and hope that it will trickle down to SMEs.

Look at the new American franshicses and how successful fast food franschises are !
Look at how the new young spender clobber the burgers and Milk Tea and GongCha and Koi Cafe ...
Look at so many potential American franchises waiting to be tapped. Checkers Grill burger, Einstein Bros, Dean & DeLuca Comes to Singapore to unlock their creative product to Asia.

This is called Fast Track capitalism and Franchising is the next big wave

The handphone market is reached it's peak level. the product market is dead long time ago.

MNCs will shift out due to high cost mainly because of the rental cost multiplicator.

The next gen or two of sinkies will suffer too. PRC students and PR here, our govt train them and offer them other opportunities and treatment. These PRs sell hdb and make a profit from sinkies. Subsequently, they will just go back to PRC or homeland, have greater chance of getting employed in their own country because worked in sinkieland before, cost of employing them is cheaper than employing a sinkie expat in PRC.

For those bootlickers think that they have uphand to ask their cronies to employ their childeren; PR have native network in that country where sinkies children don't. If you are MNC, who would you employ in the developing country?

This day will come thank you 60%, karma for your children too.

why not nokia just use andriod OS.. save all the hassle and just compete on functionality of phones and features.

If their Symbian os is too hard to let go, R&D to find ways to merge with andriod to come up with something more cutting edge.
