Not only are Singaporeans the most trusting of their government leaders to tell the truth , they are also the third most trusting country in the world. This is according to the 2012 Edelman Trust Barometer, an Edelman Public Relations annual trust and credibility survey run across 25 countries. The global online survey measures trust levels in four key institutions - government, businesses, non-governmental organisations and media.
Although trust levels for the Government, businesses and non-governmental organisations here remained steady from 2011, Singaporeans still think the Government and businesses do not meet their expectations.
Other results show that technology has overtaken telecommunications to become the most trusted industry in Singapore, while trust in Singapore media has increased 6 per cent, the largest increase among the four institutions surveyed. Traditional media registered the biggest increase - 12 per cent - compared to other forms of media.
Overall, Singapore emerged the third most trusting country, behind China and the United Arab Emirates. The least trusting countries were Russia, Japan and Spain.
