Wang Jun, the deputy mayor of Ningguo, Anhui province, is seen standing over 103-year-old Cheng Yanchun in this photo from October 2013.

The government of Ningguo, a small city in central Anhui province, was unapologetic about manipulated a 103-year-old woman into a photo with its deputy mayor Wang Jun. The photographer had just attempted to fix a "bad angle", its public information office said on Wednesday.

Photoshopped appearances of Chinese officials are nothing new, but since the advent in 2009 of Sina Weibo, China's largest microblogging platform, they have been shared widely, turning local officials into objects of nationwide ridicule.
