Nine arrested for selling and distributing counterfeit products

SINGAPORE: Nine people have been arrested for allegedly selling and distributing counterfeit products.
The four men and five women, aged between 27 and 44 years old, were arrested in a 12-hour operation on Tuesday.
Police conducted simultaneous raids at 12 locations and seized 6,600 pieces of goods with an estimated street value of S$108,000.
These goods bore the falsely applied trademarks of cartoon characters like Hello Kitty, SpongeBob SquarePants, Angry Birds, Stitch from Lilo & Stitch, Piglet from Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Investigations against the suspects are ongoing.
Those found guilty of selling or distributing articles with falsely applied trademarks may be fined up to S$10,000 per article, up to a total maximum fine of S$100,000, or a jail term up to five years, or both. - CNA/ac
