Nicole Seah losing support among Xtians due to public outcry over husband’s article

Star politician Nicole Seah’s popularity appears to have taken a hit among Christians following her boyfriend (or husband?) Belmont Lay’s rant against them in a controversial article published by Yahoo News which left many hurt and fuming.

In the article titled “Why call the police over everything?”, Belmont Lay appeared to chide the Christian community for lodging police reports against the organizers of the ‘Escape chapel Party’, sneering at them for ‘making a mountain out of a molehill’ by calling the police when no ‘crime’ has been committed:

“First and foremost, I can never understand why people feel like they have to resort to calling the police, especially when no crime has been committed. If religious people are unhappy with secular event organisers, they should sort it out among themselves privately like adults.”

He ended his tirade against Christians by calling on them to leave the police out of such ‘private matters’ next time:

“As a religious person, let’s just assume you’re guaranteed the right to feel offended, although I’m pretty sure not everyone will agree with this….Next time, try to leave the authorities out of things….Especially the police, who should be better off spending their time and precious resources solving real crimes. Let a private matter between citizens be just that — a private matter.”

Belmont Lay’s insensitivity and arrogance towards the Christian community drew flak from even non-Christians, many of whom say they will now withdraw their support for Nicole if she remains together with him.

Let's be absolutely clear about this: the ones who are making noise are the Roman Catholics and not the Protestants.

I got to say this, this Belmont is one helluva stupid guy.
If he chides the Catholics for making this police report, isn't he also chiding Buddhist who agreed with the filing of police report aver Rony Tan etc? That will belittle a lot of people in the process.

I am neither for or against the party. However, this Belmont chap should bear in mind that by virtue of his association with Nicole, his is more or less a public figure and should be conscious of statements he make that might be made public. When a group of people are offended and want something done, the proper channel is via the cops. He expects them to take the law into their own hands?

The question now is has he become a liability to her politcal career. Sometime ago, some people here f him for being a lousy writer who couldn't even land himself a job with a press or something.

If he is such a lousy writer, why must he write in the first place to piss another group of supporters. I'm not a Catholic but this is could be a suicidal move for him to carry on writing things that can cause rift between Nicole and some potential voters. I hated Lee's excuse for 'not being able' to please everyone but to bend on loving the capitalists and betraying the masses as cheap labour.

Gentlemen, we must see a bigger picture here. Nicole must cut herself off from him; I'm not referring to her marital status. She must speak up and clear the air before she loses her 'halo' in the hearts and minds of some people in Sinkiesland.

His happy trigger attitude is going to become her liability soon. Better shut his bloddy mouth before more damage is done.

I was quite happy when WP was voted in and possibly represented a voice for the people. But the handling of this episode showed WP to be perhaps more draconian than the PAP. This guy didn't do anything so wrong that it would endanger the public (unlike the Mas Selamat case) nor anything corrupt, and yet he was dealt with so severely. The leadership in WP could have restrained themselves from coming to a decision and let the voters hold a referendrum, but they firmly stated their views, and carried it out. Damn, even Bill Clinton held on to his job despite the publicity on Monica's case, and he had support from family, and country. LTK may be only capable in speaking in dialect to win popularity, but for running a country, I have my doubts.
