From Lee Hsien Loong's Facebook page
Taipei, March 8 (CNA) Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (李顯龍) met with New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu (朱立倫) Friday and discussed developments in Taiwan and the region in the Southeast Asian city-state, Lee said on his Facebook page Sunday.
Chu left for Singapore Friday to promote New Taipei tourism in the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) Travel Fair 2015.
Lee noted that Singapore and Taiwan enjoy a long friendship, going back to Singapore's former chief of government Lee Kuan Yew and the late Republic of China President Chiang Ching-kuo in the 1970s.
Chu, who has also been chairman of the ruling Kuomintang since January, downplayed his meeting with Lee and just said he thinks Singapore and Taiwan will maintain their friendship.
Lee, a son of Lee Kuan Yew, has been the city-state's prime minister since 2004 and was Singapore's deputy prime minister 1990-2004.
Chu, New Taipei mayor since 2010, was deputy premier 2009-2010 and Taoyuan magistrate from 2001-2009.
