Local employers will have to pay for the upkeep of foreign workers who are waiting for their complaints to be resolved, under a new bill introduced in Parliament.
It is one of several public suggestions that have been incorporated in the bill to tighten the foreign worker employment law to ensure Singaporeans remain at the core of the country's workforce and to make employers pay the true cost of hiring foreigners.
The bill to amend the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act proposes higher fines and longer jail terms for employers who run afoul of the law.
