SINGAPORE - Train service along a stretch of the Downtown Line was disrupted by a train fault at Hillview station on Sunday (Oct 15) afternoon, affecting commuters attending the new Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) open house.

Hillview station is located along the Downtown Line 2 (DTL2). The delays lasted for nearly an hour, with no train service between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World stations.

The Straits Times understands that trains were put on hold down the line, resulting in some trains on the DTL3 being affected.

An announcement of the fault was initially made in trains, with commuters told to disembark at Ubi station.

SBS Transit, which operates the Downtown Line, then announced the fault on its social media accounts at 1.04pm. It said free bus rides had been made available at designated bus stops near affected stations.

Normal service resumed at around 1.21pm. SBS Transit also assured commuters that services on the DTL3 were running as usual.

Mr Chu Ern Teng, 43, an engineer, attended the open house but was forced to wait about 20 minutes at the Bedok Reservoir station platform.

He had got on the train with his family but got off after about 10 minutes as the train heading towards Fort Canning did not move.

"We were quite excited to attend the open house and to head downtown for lunch. But it is disappointing that this had to happen and it has spoilt our day a little and caused a bit of unhappiness."

"I do hope it will run smoothly once it opens."

A commuter who only wanted to be known as Agnes had to wait at the Geylang Bahru station for 30 minutes as the trains were not moving.

"We came out to see the open house, but it's a small thing, we can still enjoy the activities and free rides," said the 55-year-old administrator.

"It's a matter of give and take, and overall we are still excited about the new train stations."

The DTL3's official opening is scheduled on Oct 21. Its opening will mark the completion of the three-stage Downtown Line.

From 10am to 6pm on Sunday, the public are being treated to free train rides and can explore the new stations along the 21km section, which has 16 stations running from Fort Canning to Expo.

It passes through neighbourhoods such as Geylang Bahru, Kaki Bukit and Bedok Reservoir, which have never been served by the MRT system.

take note this is managed by sbs transit. however complaints can still go to LTA and MOT. haha.

On open house... is this the epitome of embarrassment or what?

As aptly captioned by SMRT Feedback, it's akin to you organising an orgy and you had to experience erectile dysfunction...

It was a fucking embarrassment all right.

Some of the residents were angry and scolded my fellow grassroots leaders and I.

We now want the names of the lowly technicians that caused the train service to fail today. We are thinking of settling this matter with them men-to-men in some quiet cul-de-sac.

Next time, just hire a mini-bus. :D

How come they scold you and your fellow grassroots leaders and not the CEO or Minister in charge? Wrong targets!

Always scold the people you can replace and not those who can replace you. :D
