Drivers hoping to beat the red light at five busy intersections should be put off by new digital red light cameras beginning operations March 1.
The cameras have been installed at the following locations: Victoria Street by Arab Street towards Lavender Street, Victoria Street by Ophir Road towards Bras Basah Road, Victoria Street by Rochor Road towards Lavender Street, Lavender Street by Jalan Besar towards Balestier Road and Ophir Road by Beach Road towards the East Coast Parkway.
The new digital cameras do not require reloading and retrieval of film negatives for processing, and are designed to stay operational all day to detect motorists from trying to run a red light.
Beating a red light attracts a fine and 12 demerit points against the offender. Beating a red light twice within 24 months will result in a license suspension.
