There are no Cinderella teams in the World Cup finals anymore. Japan and the African teams have narrowed the gap with Europe and South America. The Africans in particular are physically and technically - if not more athletic - the equals of the traditional powers, maybe lagging in tactical and orgainizational nous, but this is slowly being remedied by the hiring of experienced coaches and managers and by their players playing in top leagues abroad.
This is probably the most open World Cup finals I've ever watched.
