Right pref shares were 5-6%, but diff class risk is slightly higher than bonds right albeit still ultra safe.
Also 5.5% & 5.1% is if buy in at 100.

Perhaps they see fed rate hike yr end so shore up some reserves

I think they will stop all QE by appx end of 2014 or 1Q14. Then before rate hike, they need to buy/absorb back the past QE $$$ in the money (liquidity), to avoid burdening the govt coffers.

Here's some summary:
For US: Goldman said Fed will hike rate in mid-2015
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/09/us-usa-fed-poll-idUSBREA381KR20140409
For Malaysia: UOB said that rates will be increased by min. 25 to 50bp within a year
For Singapore: UOB Economic Treasury Research anticipates the 10Y S$ SOR, which is closely associated with 10Y SGS, to reach 2.55% by end-13, 2.65% by end-14 and 4.0% by end-15.

No handsome brother, you are extremely reasonable.

last week, UOB issued 3.5% bonds, callable in 2020.
$250K per lot

fully placed out, first day of trading on 22 May, you can either buy from grey-market (before listing) or first day of trading in secondary market.

Alternatively, you can buy OCBC 4%, closed to par-value (slight premium), currently bid 100.1 - Ask 100.6
$250K per lot, callable in 2018 Jan.

I believe you will agree that bond UOB and OCBC are ultra-safe right? Both coupons are tax-free.

PS: Please check with your bank RM, some stock remisiers do handle secondary market trades, but most wouldn't.

Frankly how many in this forum can afford the S$250k a pop.
Tuayapeh 300k go for 1 pop and remaining 50k can still go for those that are slightly above par. at 10k a pop.

Good to play ultra safe though.
Hard earn/coffin money don't come easy too.

Here's my observations about Tuayapeh
Tuayapeh is likely to be worth in millions; He only asked for 3%; this hints that he is just tulan that his 300K in bank getting mediocre fixed deposits income. The 300K merely represents the safe/cash component of his financial portfolio. He might have other higher income/risk exposures in shares or properties. If someone only have 300K overall, they will not be happy to put all into bonds/fixed deposits.

ok lah, if u really loves bond so much, there are some retail bonds/preference shares available in small lots (like shares) listed on SGX = primary market. Secondary market = usually 250K per lot.
