SINGAPORE: Authorities have seized nearly a kilogramme of drugs from a Malaysian who tried to smuggle the loot in via Woodlands Checkpoint.

On Thursday morning, officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority nabbed the 24-year-old driver who was driving a Malaysian-registered car.

The suspect was stopped for checks and officers found two bundles wrapped with black masking tape in a hidden compartment underneath the centre armrest console of the vehicle.

The bundles were believed to contain about 920 grammes of heroin with a street value of approximately S$138,000.

The driver is now under investigation for importing drugs.

If convicted, he may face the death penalty.
