George Town - A Myanmar national was slashed by three knife-wielding men as a "warning" at Jalan Permai, Gelugor, here.

Firdaus Husin, 38, was slashed on his right hand, left shoulder and back before he was tied up and blindfolded.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the victim, who worked as a contract worker, was then bundled into a Proton Wira.

"They then drove him to a residential area in Bukit Gambier, some 2km away from where he was abducted and abandoned him.

"He managed to flag down a motorcyclist for help.

"The motorcyclist then called for an ambulance, which subsequently sent him to the Penang Hospital at about 9.15pm on Saturday," he said.

ACP Gan Kong Meng said police have not ruled out the possibility that the attack could have stemmed from a personal grudge between the victim and the suspects.

Meanwhile, police detonated a live mortar bomb found at a construction site in Jalan Penawar 2, Jelutong.

ACP Gan said a worker carrying out groundworks at the site had stumbled upon the 81mm WWII bomb.
