Happened to be free, went to find an old friend who is operating a retail shop selling clothings and shoes. Having been in business for the past 5 years, can see he looked rather stressed. I was very surprised when he told me the salesgirl he hired to man the shop for him actually earns more than what he takes home a month.
I asked him how can that be? He cited to me increasing rental, bigger malls, and hinted to me by end of the year he could be giving up the business and maybe go back to civil engineering line which he did before coming into the business. His pay back then was $3.6K, but he wanted to set up retail clothing because its his passion. He said during our father's time, anyone who is an employee would envy their employer for earning much more than them, but now you would be lucky not to lose money in business and there are cases (in this instance) where the employee earns much more than the employer.
Sad but true. Nowadays being employed is indeed luckier than going around employing people :p
