My life as a taxi drivers - about $7k drivers
Yes, its truth, some taxi drivers can hit $7k a month, I have actually try driving taxi, as I am running my own business, I though with the taxi, it can help me reduce the transportation cost, but I was wrong. Eventually, after a month, I gave up.
Life as a Taxi driver is meaningless, you have to wake up early and work till late night. you see, only the younger taxi drivers can take this long stressful hours. The crowd are from 6am till 10am, during this time, you must make $130 to covers your daily rental and fuel, on average, one taxi driver makes about $20 an hour during the peak hour. Therefore from, 6am to 10am, its about $80 -$100 income, the driver still have to toll the street for left over till around 11am.
from 11am onward the street will be quiet with some left over being competed by hundreds of empty cabs.
the next pick period will be from 6pm till 12 midnight, this is the time where the drivers make their profits after covering their cost in the morning.
You see, to make the profit, drivers have to race against time, from 6 pm onward, only the experience drivers who are able to race to their destination fast and pick up new passengers fast are able to make a decent profit. most of those drivers below 2 years experience like me are still struggling with the fastest direction. If we couldn't make it to the destination fast and pick up new passenger, we wont be able to clock $20/$25 an hour. Lets say if we clock $17 and hour, it will be 17 * 6 hours = $102 profit.
I find it meaningless to up 5am to work till 10am to cover rental and expenses for the companies and govt taxes. Those drivers making $7k a month had to work from 6am till 10am, and then 4pm till 2am, and they have to be very experience, and know their streets well, from inside out.
if you pick up a passenger from city to jurong west, and you pick up another passenger from jurong west to yishun st 21, you must know the shortest distance and time to go from jurong to yishun. Passenger will not be happy if you take the longer route, and you will also need to turn over the customer fast to clock the $25 an hours target.
Why I gave up driving taxi? because, its so tiring that I never knew i can sleep 10 hours non stop in my mid life, I have no time for my business, driving taxi is draining my mental strength.
you have an option, health vs stress.
