My friends, the real albatross over a more progressive Singapore political culture is the GRC system, the henpecked mainstream media, the materialistic and competitive Singapore culture, the over indulgence of our youths in electronic games (and not books) and not the ISA who has not deter those willing and able like Chen Show Mao, Low Thia Khiang and Sylvia Lim to rise to the highest organization in our land.

I agree with you.

ISA is practically useless as an act and political tool. Najib learned how to get rid of it so that Anwar can not use that to bleed BN's votes. ISA's continued existence exposed LEEgime's insecurity and fear and prolong their painful process of death, like another nail in their coffin. Exploit this political handle well and we can continue to cut and bleed them easily.

You surely and also exploit the GRC system for similar purposes. They already learned that GRC is a liability and pain proven by GE2011. They just have no idea what to do about it, similar to the ISA burden.:p

I think that without the GRC system, WP could only win three seats instead of six. The rest would have been in the high 40s nevetheless and still sweep most if not all the NCMP seats. Faisal Manup would certainly not win and probably be the lowest WP scorer. Note that he's the first Malay opposition MP ever, thanks to the GRC system. No opposition Malay candidate has ever won an SMC.

On the other hand, some seats would be won in the GRC areas, in the East Coast and in areas where notorious candidates from the ruling party were fielded. For Opposition as a whole. Definitely in MacPherson NS would have won against TPL. I am not too sure about GMS though. But generally, opposition would have won more seats.

I doubt that PAP would dare to field TPL in any SMC. ;) And also in an all-SMC system, LTK wouldn't have stepped out.

with or without GRC, PAP 60% popular votes should win it 90% seats in parliament. that's how first past the post system works, to return an absolute majority for any one party.

Dear Frens, to me the GRC is an issue, as the weak candidates can get the support of the strong candidate. TPL wins bcos she is in Marine Parade supporter by GCT. And yes TPL will loose if it was one on one with Nicole. However if its all single seats and there is Gerrymandering (a PAP art) Oppos will find it hard to win seats too.

We need to look at electoral boundaries, how its carved up..to me the 1st step is each seat determined by population, for example 70K people make one constituency. The PAP knows exactly which block of flats vote oppos etc. So it has to be made a level playing field.

Alternatively, Oppos should treat a GRC as a single constituency, like walk the ground etc etc and prepare for the next election. As it was said in this forum, the next election is now. For Nicole seah, she and her team should continue and work the ground in Marine Parade like what Silvia Lim did when she was NCMP. SL laid the ground work for WP to contest Aljunied. and WP won. Also after WP won, they did their out reach immediately, organise activities etc for their constituents. So WP consolidated their position. It will be hard for PAP to dislodge them now. Look at the PAP, how many popular PAP MPs are there? and tell me, which PAP minister is popular? Which PAP members will contest in Aljunied next time?

WP should now concentrate on the east like East Coast, etc, where they got the high 40s.

Think next GE GCT will retire and TPL wonch be fielded again. Marine Parade going to see a sea change LOL

In fact, I believe the GRC system is increasingly risky for the ruling party as their popularity votes move closer to 50% or lower. Their loss of seats will get disproportionately higher.

The opposition had managed to beat the ruling party in their own game. We will see changes in the next election.

If she is really that good, they could have fielded heR against Lina & Lina would have won, pants down!, oops! eh! HANDS DOWN!:p TPL, is what we call, Christmas stocking filler, the ones you buy from the store at Christmas for $5 or less in the pass.:D

You siow. Why should they field her against Lina? They can still field her against Teo Soh Lung or Sin Kek Tong. And don't be so sure Macpherson will vote Nicole. TPL did very well in Macpherson compared to the other Marine Parade GRC wards.

Best to carve out MacPherson and let TPL contest there with Nicole Seah challenging. Would be the highlight of GE16.

Dream on. Once they carve out Macpherson, GMS lah, Yip Yew Weng lah, Jeanette Arudoss lah, Sebastian Tan alh ... all will go after that seat.

15 more years and we'll see a coalition government for the first time in Sinkieland's history.
