Police issue permit for Pakatan gathering today

SUBANG JAYA: Police have issued a permit for the mass gathering organised by Pakatan Rakyat today at the Kelana Jaya stadium here.

The gathering is titled “Perhimpunan Perdana Sambutan Hari Malaysia (Mass Gathering To Celebrate Malaysia Day)” but websites related to the opposition alliance suggest the rally will demand for the release of Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamarudin and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, currently detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said police had approved the permit for the gathering but reminded those taking part in it to pay heed to orders issued by the police from time to time.

“We advise the organisers and their supporters to observe the law at all times.

“Due to the large number of people expected to attend the rally, precautions have been taken and police will be prepared for all possibilities during the gathering,” he said.

Khalid said this after attending the “Balik Kampung – Rumah Selamat” campaign at Summit shopping complex in USJ here yesterday.

About 30,000 supporters are expected at the 7pm Pakatan rally.

According to the Selangor state government, the event would be attended by all Pakatan leaders, including Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The programme includes the breaking of fast and the maghrib, isyak and terawih prayers followed by speeches by Pakatan leaders.

the state of Selangor is controlled by PKR after the election.
that is probably why the permit is being approved and issued.

my guess is Mr. lky dislikes crowd and noise, or lky worried that in gatherings some Leeaporeans might not be very comfortable, or he being a Baba, 'pantang' seeing many Leeaporeans gathered together. these could be the reasons why he pleaded with the police force, to rarely issue permits for mass gatherings. there might be other reasons beyond my guessing.
